Probation Violation
Location: Wyoming
Hello,
For background, I got a DUI in September of 2024. My sentence was 18 months of unsupervised probation with a 6 months ignition interlock requirement that would have expired 12/20/2025.
Fast forward to today, I was pulled over while driving a uhaul with my car on a trailer behind it. Someone had phoned in a tip that I had a chain dragging under my trailer.
The cop asked me for my license and ran my info through the system. He came back and told me that my license was suspended and asked me why. I misunderstood at the time, but ultimately I told him the license was RESTRICTED because of a dui with an ignition interlock requirement. He told me that the license was actually suspended, and then tacked on a ticket for driving a vehicle without the interlock (the uhaul).
I left my uhaul on the side of the road and he dropped me off at a truck stop where I’m currently typing this. I called the DMV and they told me my license was completely valid and that ticket will not stand in court.
However, the ignition one is obviously pretty cut and dry. I am moving for work and in all the stress of it, completely overlooked the interlock not being in the uhaul. My entire family lives in Michigan and I really had no other options for someone to drive it as I can’t afford movers and just didn’t have anyone close to me that could help.
All in all, I’m just looking to find out what I may be looking at here. I’m reading online that I’ll probably have to serve jail time and now my probation will be completely screwed up.
I just hate that I complied with every single bit of my probation and I get hit with this 14 days before my interlock would have been taken off.
Any advice would be extremely helpful.
Thanks!
