Where did the blood on The One Who Waits come from?

I've been working on a Narinder redesign and it made me wonder about the origin od the blood on his robe. The obvious answer seems to be that it came from Narinder himself, judging by its pattern, but he doesn't seem to be wounded. Maybe he was injured in the fight with the Bishops? Or, is it intended to be their blood? He did mess them up pretty good. Apologies if this is a stupid question. Just some thoughts I had.
