I want to continue downloading unfinished game files!

My friend downloaded a big part of a free steam game and i want to continue the download on my pc, i got the incomplete file from his "steam/steamapps/downloading" file and my question is what to do to continue the download on my pc, where do i put the file, and should i get any other files from my friend? And thanks.
