Advice on Triggers πŸ…πŸ§…πŸŸπŸ«β˜•

Reminder that GERD is unfortunately a lifetime condition and is there is no real cure only remission through diet.

Long story short, 29M, non smoker and abstinent from drinking, I've been suffering from GERD for 10+ years now, was never really concious about and just coped with coughing 2 hours a day when I would wake up and always after food. I am a sailor and maritime reality and schedule is not GERD friendly to say the least. For the last two months onboard of being real busy GERD just went into remission for me. Never stopped taking PPIs but lowered the dosage to 20mg od ezomeprasole. Until today when I foolishly had a large coffee with a drop of milk for the first time in three months. It was that or falling asleep on watch and I chose the coffee. All my symptoms came back in 3 hours - heartburn, acidic cough, neck rash and feeling of 'needles', irritation and inability to rest when laying down on my back. Note that I never stopped eating frying food, eggs, black pepper, tomatoes, oils, etc all the common triggers. Not a hint of GERD from those for months. Apparently what causes it for me is coffee.

Stay strong, change your lifestyle and identify your triggers early!
