RAID 1 on SSD for homelab worth it?

Wrong Community

As a sysadmin of 30 years, I've always used RAID 1 in my home servers with spinning disks and it has paid off a few times. But now I'm all SSD and I notice that I have gotten out of the habit of mirroring. I still do backups, of course. But it seems like the chances of an SSD failure are lower such that the risk induced by the extra complication of having RAID involved may make RAID 1 not worthwhile.

I'm only talking about availability. I already know for sure that I don't need to double my SSD performance.

What's the modern consensus on this? We're not talking enterprise storage here. But I do WFH using these systems. I've got a 2TB Samsung 990 PRO here that I'm about to stick in a box. Should I have bought two?
