22lr upper or 22lr conversion kit

I’m looking to shoot 22lr and I don’t know if I want to buy another gun but I was also considering buying either an upper for my ar or a conversion kit and wonder which would be better and not a certain brand recommendation because it’s only for target practice so I’ll buy whatever is the cheapest best option and just wondering if a conversion kit will damage the barrel of my 5.56 barrel quicker.
