Paid for a wholesaling mentorship, got ghosted, bank dispute denied, what are my options?
I’m freaking out a little and need advice from anyone who’s dealt with mentorship programs or bank disputes.
Back in early September, I signed a contract for a real estate wholesaling mentorship program that was supposed to include ongoing calls and support. The contract was for $2,000, but I ended up being charged $2,500 total through Venmo across three payments ($500 and then two $1,000 charges).
There’s a really predatory refund clause in the contract: no refund unless you wait 90 days AND submit at least 100 property leads AND work 10 hours a week. That was unrealistic for me with work and school, and I told the mentor in mid-September that I could no longer continue. He didn't acknowledge this and was rude.
Then around mid-October he completely stopped responding. No more communication, calls, or guidance. I basically got left in the dark after I paid.
Has anyone had success appealing a dispute like this or filing a complaint another way? Can I still go to Venmo, CFPB, or state consumer protection even after a bank denial?
Any guidance would help. I’m stressed and not sure what to do next.
