Double Crust Steak?

Has anyone ever made a steak like this:

My favorite part of steak is the crust, and I typically reverse sear where I slowly cook it in the oven and the finish by searing in the cast iron which gives me consistently great steak. Has anyone ever tried searing once before the oven? Kinda nervous to try it and waste a 80$ ribeye!
