Max G30 suddenly limiting speed to like 12mph after firmware update?

So I've had my G30 Max for about 8 months now and it's been solid. Commute to work every day, no issues. But I updated the firmware through the app last week (think it was 1.7.3?) and now the thing won't go past 12-13mph even in sport mode with a full battery.

I've tried the usual stuff - checked tire pressure, made sure sport mode is actually enabled, did a full power cycle. Nothing. It's like there's some kind of artificial limiter now that wasn't there before. The motor just cuts out when I hit that speed.

Anyone else experience this after updating? I'm wondering if it's a regional thing or maybe the app detected I'm in a restricted zone? (I'm not though, same route I always take). Kinda frustrating because I KNOW this thing can hit 18mph no problem, I've been doing it for months.

Thinking about rolling back the firmware but not sure if that's even possible without bricking it... any thoughts?
