What's next for the franchise? (No spoilers or discussion for MP4; we're sticking general)

As mentioned in the title, we're not discussing any storyline or spoilers or anything for Prime 4 here.

My curiosity is what comes out next for the franchise. Prime 4 has been on our radar for forEVER, but that's out now. Dread was always hinted at, but that has been out forEVER now. As far as I'm aware, the only thing we know is that both 2D and 3D have directions they could head for their next adventure (let's call them Metroid 6 and Metroid Prime 5 for the sake of simplicity).

On the other hand, we still have a handful of past projects that aren't available on the Switch/Switch 2 currently either. Games like Samus Returns and Prime 2 & 3 (and a small pile of much less likely side titles, like Prime Pinball or Hunters or whatever). Last but not least, there's always the remake route. We could get Prime 2 on Gamecube's NSO...or Prime 2 Remastered (if Prime 4 ends up being a massive sales success to justify it). We could also get Super or Fusion remade by MercurySteam using their time with Dread.

If I had to guess, I'm rolling with a new 2D title will be out by the end of 2026. I think they'll want to do SOMETHING for Metroid's 40th anniversary (which is next year). The lowest-hanging fruit is a Switch 2 Edition for Dread that adds Samus Returns HD. Given that it'll have been 5 years since Dread (and they've only released one other game in that time, and a mediocre one at that), bringing Samus Returns to the Switch 2 doesn't feel impossible...but it also doesn't feel like it would have any splash whatsoever. If they wanted to do something that gets attention, they'd remake Super instead.

So here's my guesses for the franchise. And I'd love to hear yours.

2026: A remake or HD of a 2D game...I'm going with Super Metroid Remake
2028: Metroid Prime 2 Remake
2029: Metroid 6
2030: Metroid Prime 3 & Metroid MOVIE (based on Zero Mission)
2032: Metroid Prime 5
