Best small villages in Tuscany for a short wine/food trip

Accommodation !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!!

So my Dad is a huge wine and food lover and he's turning 70 this week, so we want to surprise him with a trip to Italy. The plan is to fly to Florence, rent a car and stay in a quiet town for 3-4 days, drive around the vineyards, visit one or two vineyards and enjoy the landscape. Which cities/small villages would you recommend for a trip like this? Travel date would be April/may.

I already read about San Gimignano, but it seems relatively touristy and more expensive. Is Montalcino or Montepulciano worth a visit? Or maybe some town in the Chianti area or something in Bolgheri close to the sea?

Thank you for all the recommendations!
