I'm currently doing my PhD in robotics, is it possible to get into quant?

Hi, I'm currently doing my PhD in robotics, with a focus on optimal control and planning methods for ground vehicles. I realized recently that the skills that I have can somehow be applied in finance. Is this right? And if so, how can I get into quant? What other directions can I explore in finance?
