Squeezing liquid out of veggies

We love zucchini pancakes/ fritters and I make them often. The only problem is, you need to squeeze as much liquid from shredded zucchini as possible and then some. I do it manually in handfuls, but this is tiresome. I tried the cheesecloth method once and it didn't get nearly as much liquid out, maybe I was doing it wrong. Is there a tool that will make it easier? Will a potato ricer work?
