What would you do?

I was made redundant from my previoue position a couple of months ago and I was with the company for more than two years.

I was originally asked to return on a self-employed basis shortly after redundancy, but at the last-minute they changed thier minds and asked me to start early next year.

I hadn't seriously applied for jobs, so was understandably panicking and feeling sky high levels of anxiety, but managed to land a temporary role until the end of Jan. My last role was remote, and redundancy aside I wasn't happy and was contemplating leaving.

The new temp role pays slightly less, but it is hybrid and I feel so much happier, I'm sleeping better and feeling better in terms of routine, structure and my mental health. I knew I was unhappy, but being away from it has highlighted it even more.

I haven't yet contacted my old company about returning in the new year and as it stands, I don't really want to go back anymore. But, I also haven't been given any indication the new temp role contract will be extended. I have asked a few times since joining and have been told they don't know.

I don't want to burn any bridges so wondering how best to approach this.

What would you do?
