The annual "I'm driving from Denver over the Rockies for the holidays, how do I not be an idiot about it?" Thread.
My own situation:
For a variety of reasons, including a family funeral, I can't avoid driving over the Rockies next week. We can be flexible with the specific day and time we leave, so we can respond to weather. We'll have two drivers, two dogs, and a VW Tigwan. We have to go I70 through SLC. Partner isn't sure if we'll need chains or studs. I will happily argue the opposite. Lay it on me.
In general:
Given the specifics of local traffic patterns and weather, any advice to offer general folks doing the silly thing and driving over the Rockies during these winter holidays?
