My roommate won’t shut up about yaoi.

Pretty self explanatory with the title, but I’ll explain a little further. Also this might be a little long sorry not sorry.

Some background- I’m a (20F) junior in college and live in a double at the dorms at my university. I had a previous roommate I got along with pretty well with, little scuffles here and there, but we became good friends from randomly rooming together. This year she decided to commute instead of dorming, but didn’t decide that till after we chose our room for this current year. So I wasn’t able to switch to a single and just chill by myself for the year. So that led to me getting a new random roommate. I originally got a new roommate not long after my previous one pulled out and we started communicating and she was really chill. However a week and half into the semester she switched to a different building that she liked more, no bad blood between us or anything. So sadly she made her departure and I was once again left to getting a new roommate. I had the double to myself for about two weeks before a new girl got placed in, aka my new and current roommate (20F)

Now from the very beginning I could tell she wasn’t the greatest . She stayed up super late and got up super earlier without any care and would watch things at full brightness when all the lights would be off, effectively lighting the entire room up, on her lovely iPad. But I told her to stop doing that and she stopped. I thought issues would stop there. Nope.

Barely a week or two into her living with me she starts having daily phone calls that would last for hours and hours talking about essentially one topic. Yaoi.

Now I’m not a stranger to yaoi or BL, I’ve consumed some of it in my free time, but a healthy amount you know? My roommate however talks day and night about her favorite Yaoi stories, and she’s very explicit in doing so. I’ll overhear phrases like “oh he was getting raped by him like every chapter” “he was fucking him in the ass for hours” “he was eating his ass like a lunatic” “oh (insert character name) was using a dildo and got caught by(insert character name)”- there’s honestly an endless amount of things I’ve heard but those are just a few.

My roommate basically has no life and will essentially read nothing but yaoi all day and talk on the phone about it very explicitly with her friends. But it doesn’t stop there. She talks about how if these characters were real, they’d be fucking her left and right. Mind you, she’s a straight female consuming all of this content. Now idk about yall but I say she’s bordering on the likes of fetishization if not already crossed that line.

I’ve debated confronting her on it, but she has diagnosed bpd so I’m not sure how she’d handle the situation. Im also a person that likes keeping peace in any situation possible and considering I have to room with her for the whole upcoming spring semester as well, idk what to really do. I just try and put my headphones on full blast and tune her many phone calls out. Let me know if you guys have any good ideas of confrontation.

TL/DR- roommate spends hours on the phone talking explicitly about yaoi/bl. Also has mental health diagnoses so not sure if I should confront or not and just stick out for rest of the semester/school year.
