Sleeper Living Room PC GD04
I’ve always wanted to build a sleeper PC to match the stereo setup in my living room. From the outside, you’d never guess this thing is packing a modern AM5 setup with a current gen GPU. A friend gave me this SilverStone GD04 case with an old 4th gen Intel i3 inside. It could’ve lived on as a light Linux box for basic home server duties, but I wanted more.
The GD04 is a true 20L mATX case and felt perfect for a sleeper build, even if it might be a little too “new” for r/sleeperbattlestations. I gutted the whole thing, pulled out the 2011 ketchup-and-mustard wiring, and swapped the fans for Arctic P12s on the sides and P8s in the rear. I also upgraded the front I/O to USB-C just to modernize it. As for cable management, I do not think that existed when this case came out so worked with what I had and just bundled everything as tightly as I could.
Inside, it’s running an MSI B850M paired with a Ryzen 7700 and a Thermalright X53 cooler, which ended up matching the silver/grey/black aesthetic nicely. The GPU is a PowerColor Reaper 9060XT, the smallest width full-size card I could find that would actually fit. I only had 124mm of height to work with, and even then I needed a 180-degree 8-pin adapter so I could close the top panel. I considered one of the SFF 5060 cards, but really wanted the 16GB of VRAM. I also grabbed 32GB of DDR5 just before prices went up.
I don’t play a ton of games, but I still enjoy GTA V and some sim racing. Finished the build off with a period correct Blu-ray optical drive to keep the sleeper vibe intact.
Sidenote, the pic above the stereo receiver is just for scale. That spot on that TV stand is not the best for air flow.
