Smokey Tobacco is a nice, workhorse, neutral brown. It has a touch of shading and writes quite wet. I’m not sure it’s a particularly unique brown, but it sure is a versatile one.

But the scent. Is so interesting. I’m not sure it smells like tobacco, but it *does* smell like the renaissance faire. 🤷 My spouse confirms this. It isn’t an overpowering smell and is rather pleasant to me, since I love renfaire. But honestly I don’t ever pick out an ink for the sake of a scent. It’s a nice bonus (like with KWZ inks) but never a selling point. So I’m glad this scent isn’t the most prominent feature.

As for the name… I looked it up and sure enough a lot of dried tobacco leaves fall into this category of brown. I’d only seen very dark brown tobacco, but then, I’ve never smoked tobacco. But now I know. Perfect name for the color, at least.
But the scent. I guess I don’t know what tobacco smells like, since I’ve only smelled cigarettes and I hear those smell very different than, say, a pipe or nice cigar. So does renfaire smell like tobacco? Or does this ink not smell like tobacco? I dunno. But it smells nice.

Smoky Tobacco is a lovely ink. I’ve been really getting into browns lately and am pleased to have such an easy to use brown ink in my collection. This little bottle will go to good use. And I’ll be thinking of cloaks and artists and cosplay and mead and jousting the whole time 😂
