My thoughts on the series as a Noob with no nostalgia.

Discussion

As a newcomer to the series, I’ve played all the 2D ones and some of Prime 1 (couldnt finish the last 10% due to motion sickness plus the game itself wasn’t slick like the 2D ones).

I would say the biggest flaw of the series is how repetitive each game is. It often feels like the same powers, same basic story and ending.

That said, I loved Dread (and probably my fav) cause it kinda felt like they tried to change up things a bit. And it had its own unique aesthetic (Hospital vibes) like Fusion with the clinical vibe and ost + the smoothest 2D controls I’ve ever experienced. It tried to add some horror elements. It gave Samus an actual personality and body language. Like a DoomGal variant. MorphBall was a late unlock. I respect the game and all the plus makes up for repetitive pallete.

I’ve seen gameplay of Prime 4 and it just looks like Prime 1. Nothing exciting about it. The art style seems like most Metroids. The box art looks generic unlike the striking red of Dread or the alien purple of Fusion. The trailers look boring. Controls seems exactly the same.

I mean I was already tired of Prime 1 despite it being my first 3D metroid cause it aesthetically felt like SM/AMR2/ZM but 3d. And the level design wasn’t complex like those games.

My wish: A third person Metroid game with a unique aesthetic, and level design as interconnected as Dark Souls 1, with new powers that arent gloried keys and actually contribute to the gameplay.

I mean, its fair to expect that from Nintendo right.
