The Job Hunt
I've brought it up in a few of my posts already, but if you haven't been paying attention, I was laid off from my job last Monday.
After the Thanksgiving week where I sent out a few feelers and didn't have much happen, this week has been an absolute whirlwind. Including about 10 first calls with different recruiters/hr/etc types, 3 interviews already, and about 10 interviews/calls on my schedule in the next week.
As confident as I was that I would be able to find another job quickly, it's so validating to have such an incredible reception to hitting the job market.
It's also been nice to hear from some of my former coworkers how shocked they were that I was let go. One of the guys I worked with was texting me that he came out of a meeting this morning where everyone was expressing how pissed off they were about my having been let go. One of the senior guys I've worked with for almost a decade was apparently adamant that he didn't want them to let me go when they had been talking about it, but they just didn't listen to his opinion. He's getting close to retirement, wondering if this is the final straw for him.
Anyway, it's just nice to go from a really sucky situation being laid off, to getting all this support and validation and people reaching out wanting to bring me on. Though it's honestly a strange feeling when so many others are not doing as well with their job searches. I'm just fortunate to be in an industry where my skills are in high demand.
So please wish me luck through the rest of the year as I go through more interviews and hopefully start getting some actual offers. Hopefully I have a nice handful of offers and have the wonderful problem of having to compare them all and pick one.
