New Year’s in Chicago: Fireworks viewing suggestions?

I’ll be in downtown Chicago with my family for New Year’s. It’s our first time visiting the city. What’s a good place to watch the fireworks that isn’t Navy Pier? I’ve heard it gets way too crowded. We’re staying in River North, so ideally somewhere close to our hotel. Thanks!
