Neurotypical childhood but neurodivergent now?

General Question/Discussion

I’m in the early stages of my (potential) ADHD diagnosis. Discussed it with a counsellor but require a formal diagnosis from a doctor.

I’ve been doing some reading and it seems like a lot of ADHD symptoms first appear in childhood. I have a number of symptoms that are very indicative of ADHD right now (I believe I started noticing these symptoms in my late teens). However, I don’t recall having any of the “typical” hyperactivity or inattentive symptoms as a younger child. My parents say I was very attentive, studious, and organized and I don’t recall ever feeling restless or distracted (I know there are many other symptoms but not sure how they would’ve manifested as a child). Perhaps it was too long ago for me to remember but it definitely wasn’t obvious.

Does anyone else here who received an ADHD diagnosis later in their life recall what they were like as a child? Were any of you a “typical” child with no symptoms but the symptoms appeared as you got a bit older?
