How to not get invited as my player (sort of vent)
I am an okay DM, I do it because I love the game and can’t play otherwise. It’s also a big stresser and strain on me and my relationships sometimes so when I invite players I put a lot of trust in them to make the experience fun and relaxing for everyone at the table. If the table has bad chemistry, everyone leaves upset :(
I have this friend who I knew is a DM and is someone I wanted in general to become closer to! So I invited them to play a one shot. Didn’t pan out the first time, scheduling for multiple people ran in the way. No biggie, that happens. Wouldve preferred to be told earlier than they did that they couldn’t make it but things happen. Two weeks later I ask again. They say yes, again. Once again a day or two before we play (I tend to ask a week or so in advance so everyone can schedule around it) they give the “oooohh yeah iddddkkk if i can” Mind you i scheduled the date AROUND their availability.
Not a big deal but on time two they cemented themself to not be invited back to my table anytime soon. If they would had planned to tell me earlier that’s one thing but I will add both times it was only if I asked for confirmation/if they were excited to play they pulled out. And after me teeth pulling and teasing out an answer of yes or no. Very frustrating and made me have to reschedule and find more people both times.
One shot ended great! Everyone there had a great time! No regrets. But I am curious if anyone else would give more grace or try inviting this person again? I more or less made up my mind but do internally feel a little bad and I DO want to become closer..idk
TLDR: decided to no longer invite someone after last minute cancellations twice in a row
