Retro studios Might not exist after Metroid Prime 4, Here's Why.

Removed - RULE FOUR

I’ve seen so much frustration lately surrounding Metroid Prime 4, and honestly, it’s really starting to weigh on me. There’s a lot of negativity swirling around, and it feels like this game is being kicked to the ground in a way that’s almost unfair. It reminds me of how people treated The Phantom Menace when it was first released. Criticism got so intense that it eventually overshadowed everything about the movie. And now, it’s happening with Metroid Prime 4, where there’s this growing narrative that it’s the story and the writers who are to blame for the game being “bad.” But that’s just not the whole picture.

Misinformation about this game is spreading faster than ever, and it’s honestly kind of maddening to watch. The narrative is getting louder, more amplified, and with each day it feels like it’s growing more detached from reality. It’s like this endless cycle of blame without understanding the real challenges the developers at Retro Studios have faced. What people forget, or refuse to acknowledge, is that the team is stuck in this situation where they’re under NDA with Nintendo. They can’t speak out, they can’t clear up the misconceptions, and that just lets the misinformation run rampant. And the worst part? The more people talk about how “bad” the game is, the more it feeds itself. It becomes this self-fulfilling prophecy that drowns out any genuine appreciation or nuance around the game.

I feel for Retro Studios, I really do. This game has been through so much already. All the cancelled projects, the hits the studio took from the COVID pandemic, the crazy weather events that disrupted work. All of that, not to mention the help they got from smaller studios along the way, and the immense pressure they’ve been under for nearly a decade, putting in all their blood, sweat, and tears into this game. They’ve invested over $100 million into Metroid Prime 4, and yet, here we are, watching it being reduced to a “failure” narrative. It feels like a tragedy in real-time, especially when it looks like this might be the game that will define whether the Metroid franchise can survive in the modern gaming market.

This is the same studio that almost didn't survive after Metroid prime, Nintendo might could've shut down the studio, laid them off but they didn't.

But Right Now in a few months, Nintendo might shut down Retro Studios for good.

Even if the game somehow does well in terms of sales, the damage to the reputation could be long-lasting. Retro could very well suffer a fate like Irrational Games after Bioshock Infinite, a studio that, despite the success of their game and the accolades it earned, struggled in ways that almost destroyed them. It’s a harsh reality of the industry, and I can’t help but feel that Metroid Prime 4 is caught in the same kind of storm, even if it somehow finds a way to be profitable.

I mean the writing is on the wall with Nintendo removing their credits in the remaster, and not working in other ips and Cancelling projects due to not meeting Nintendo's expectations.

There’s a real danger here of watching a legendary studio crumble under the weight of external pressure, blame, and unrealistic expectations.

But that's just me, I guess. What do you think?
