NRI Seeking Advice on Premature PPF Closure with SBI : One Week Visit to India

Hi all, I’m an NRI with a Public Provident Fund (PPF) account at SBI that’s been active for around 13 years. I’m planning to visit India next year and close the account prematurely after 14 years to withdraw the funds.

I also have a regular savings account with SBI (not NRO/NRE). I’ll only be in India for about a week, and I’m wondering:

• Will SBI allow me to transfer the PPF funds to my regular savings account during that short visit? • What documents will I need to present for the closure and transfer? • Do I need to convert my regular savings account to an NRO account beforehand?

Has anyone here gone through a similar situation? Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated!
