Filling your own Christmas Stocking

This post is for both the husbands and the wives but will definitely be slanted towards the wives and past behaviors.

If you are a wife that fills your own Christmas stocking and gets frustrated or angry about doing it or if you are a wife that has done it in the past and then stopped to see if your husband will do it on his own without prompting or to prove a point in front of the kids when yours is the only empty stocking why?!?!?!?!?!

Here’s what I read on so many social media platforms: “I do all the gift shopping, including stockings…” “My husband wouldn’t know what to buy the kids…” “My stocking would be empty if I didn’t fill it myself…” “My stocking was empty…”

Ladies - if you do all the shopping and you do not include your husband in shopping for gifts and/or stocking stuffers for your children and you do all the stocking stuffer shopping for your husband and yourself without including your husband, you have no room to complain that you do it all yourself.

If you decide to stop filling your stocking yourself and you don’t tell your husband that he is expected to fill your stocking or it will be empty on Christmas morning - you are setting him up for failure, your kids up for confusion as to why Santa skipped you this year and you are setting up the argument you are wanting to have to prove your point that your husband is lacking.

I’m saying this is not the way, it’s unfair, it’s manipulative and it spoils the day for everyone.

If you have “always done the shopping” it’s no surprise your husband is not doing it, he’s never been a part of it and has no reason to expect he’ll have to do it this year.

If you have not told your husband you’d like him to fill your stocking and because you didn’t tell him, he didn’t do it - That’s on you.

This year, keep the peace, if you are filling your own - put some stuff you really want in it. A luxury face cream, good shampoo, gift cards to the nail salon, a piece of jewelry.

If you want your husband to fill it and he’s never done it before, help him!!! Give him a list of things you use or want, tell him the brands you like, the salons you frequent, the special chocolates you only get yourself on special occasions. If you need a nee hairbrush or you want certain mittens, tell him what you like.

Do not set your family up for a bad Christmas morning simply because you’ve decided you want an argument for Christmas.

Husbands: Just because your wife has always done it, does not mean she wants to or she should be doing it.

Take it off her hands, start now, pay attention to the products she uses, how often she gets her nails done and where she goes - you don’t have to be a ninja, just ask her what salon she uses.

We know we can drop $100 on a mani/pedi. We don’t need a $100 gc in our stockings, give her a small gc, $25 off that nail appt is going to feel like she won the lottery.

Check out her makeup bag, is she low on face cream, a lipstick she loves is getting to the end - go pick it up for her and put it in her stocking. Every face cream, every makeup, every hair product is going to have the brand name and color on a label somewhere on the product - it could be on the bottom.

If you aren’t sure where to buy it, open up the Sephora or Ulta website and search it, you’ll find 99% of items on one of these sites and you don’t have to search the store aisles. Order on line and have it shipped or order on line and pick up in store.

If your wife does it herself and hasn’t complained (yet) get a few things on your own and add them to her stocking as a surprise. She’ll appreciate it and you’ll have a great Christmas morning.

TLDR: Ladies stop blaming your men for not filling your stocking if you haven’t used your words and told him you want him to.

Men - just because your wife does it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make the effort. Hints for you in the post.
