The Child the Shadows Followed

Some stories begin with a scream. This one began with silence the kind that teaches a young soul to keep breathing without being heard.

The world arrived too early, too sharp, too heavy for hands that small. So the heart learned to fold itself, to hide pieces of its own light just to survive the daylight.

Love was given in fragments half truth warmth, conditional touch, doors that opened only halfway. Enough to keep hope alive, never enough to make it feel safe.

Growing up meant learning which footsteps meant danger, which faces meant pretending, which moments meant disappearing without ever leaving the room.

The body grew older, but the soul stayed crouched in the same corner where the first wound happened trying to grow around it like a tree bent by a permanent storm.

Trust became a language with no vowels. Attachment became a ghost that showed up uninvited and vanished without warning.

Yet something unseen stayed close, watching from the doorway not to comfort, not to fix, but to witness.

A presence made of echoes and unfinished sentences, of protection that arrived at the last possible second. The kind that doesn’t remove the fire, only stops it from consuming everything.

Some say every soul has a shadow. This one had several some it inherited, some it created, some that weren’t its own but lived inside it anyway.

And still it walked forward. Cracked, yes. Haunted, absolutely. But walking. Always walking.

Not toward healing healing is a myth sold to those who’ve never bled long enough.

No, this soul walks toward understanding of why the shadows chose it, of why the scars stayed, of why survival sometimes feels like being punished for living.

But there are nights when the unseen presence returns soft, watchful, familiar a reminder that even the most damaged flame is still capable of burning in defiance of everything that tried to extinguish it.

And maybe that is the real story not the trauma, not the ghosts, not the endless rebuilding but the fact that the flame refuses to die, even when it doesn’t know why it still burns.
