Steam Mopping: A Deep Clean Deep Dive???
Steam mops always seem a tad gimmicky to me, like I know the heating element is really good to get gunk out, but steam is just a surefire way to let bacteria fester in all sorts of corners in the house. But honestly, I did eventually take the plunge and no mold, no odor, nothing. Doesn’t mean they’re perfect, had to get through a couple of rickety bad eggs obviously but you just have to find one that heats to insane temps so it can loosen all the gunk up from the skirting for you to go over with a rag.
So here’s an honest breakdown: Is it a good everyday option? HELL TO THE NO. Do not use steam mops everyday, especially if you have wood flooring, there will be warping and you will regret it. These are great for deep cleans, like whip em out once a month and go over every area of the house you’ve been procrastinating cleaning. For this I would go with something specifically made for deep cleaning too like the Scrub Master. It has a strong brush attachment and a little light so you can see into the grimy corners you’re cleaning.
Renovation friendly? Hell yes! Thing is, I think these come in handy the most right before and right after a home reno. You can get a room prepped and primed for paint and decor and then go over everything afterwards to get any random stains or debris out.
Furniture friendly? Yes and no. Some of the more expensive options out there (linking this Pursteam one) can work on couches, on glass tables, on wood, and somewhat on carpeting (cautiously) so you do get an all in one sort of gadget and and don’t have to get separate vacuums for everything. But not all of them do this so just linked my fave so you don’t have to scour Amazon.
Worth the investment? YES! Use them with your head straight on your shoulders and you’ll be fine, make your life easier honestly and get one for the spring cleaning weeks.
