Instances of Extremely Covert Narcissism?

tldr.: I'd be interested to hear about people's experiences with latent / covert narcissism in their parent/s. thank you for sharing.

background: my parent definitely has a frail ego, "interesting" emotional intelligence, and can be full of themselves; also, their shallow self-criticism and introspection are of course only further ego-cultivation. their narratives are fully believed by our family and friends, though they're in many ways a good person with good intentions, which makes this rather complex and hard to disentangle from.

I'm just not entirely sure to what extent they're a covert narc or "only" a deeply insecure person, so I'd appreciate stories from your lives if you're willing to share.
