I miss you Burnaby.
This is my first and maybe my only post here. Then again I'm basically a professional Reddit lurker altogether. But I have made an exception.
I felt the urge to share this with others to direct this painful nostalgia outward.
I moved into Burnaby near the Deer Lake area in the mid 90s. I was a young kid. Burnaby was my little home. The aimless walks in Metrotown, the aimless walks around Deer Lake. Heck, I even attended Tae Soo Do martial arts classes where the liquor store was on Canada Way right next to the Viva Sue pizza (yes, that liquor store used to be a Dojo).
I loved Christmas at the Burnaby Village Museum. I still remember going to performances as a kid at the Shadbolt center.
I knew my time in Burnaby was coming to an end a few years ago. It definitely stung. Driving back from Vancouver and seeing the 'Welcome to Burnaby' sign always provided me with comfort, knowing I'd turn off of Kensington and come back home.
I've moved out and it's been several years that I haven't been back. I live very far away unfortunately. I miss my family. I miss my little Burnaby.
I want you to know how much Burnaby meant to me. At least when I was growing up there, I would not have had it any other way. It was peaceful, cozy, serene, comforting. It was home, man.
Yes, I even miss the damn rain. Oh, and never EVER take sushi for granted. Where I'm at now, sushi is basically a pale imitation of what I grew up with.
Shout out to the Rainforest Cafe and Playdium at Metrotown. And who can forget the old Millennium store with the big dragon head at Metro as well. Just parking the car at the Silver City parking got me hyped up to watch a movie there. And CHQ arcade back when they had the old fighting game machines was hype.
But that's all in the past. Until next time Burnaby. Thanks for the memories.
