Yarn weights & Reed dents
I recently added a 10 inch Ashford rigid heddle loom to my collection. I normally weave on 20” Flip. I got it all warped up and threaded last night to discover that I must have chosen the wrong weight yarn for my reed (I am still a beginner). I warped with a DK weight on a 12.5 reed. The yarn wasn’t terribly hard to warp, I didn’t even think twice about it. Then when I put it in to the up position I noticed the shed wasn’t opening with ease. The warp threads seem to be sticking together and it’s terribly difficult to push into the down position (it was threaded in neutral) as well no opening shed without aid. Now my question is there any way to save the warp? Should I just order another size reed and rethread the DK so it’s not a total loss? My local shop only had a 12.5 and I purchased this loom used with no reed so I just grabbed what I could locally to get it useable. It’s impossible to weave on in its current state! I need to make a yarn weight to reed size chart for reference. What would you do? I’d hate to scrap a whole skein of wool because of my sizing error! What size do you use for DK? 7 / 8 / 10? I’m hoping to make a denser fabric that I can then sew upon. I don’t have a ton of DK in my stash mostly Sock weight will this be more suitable for the 12.5?
