Question regarding WH3's Immortal Empires

Question i saw dlc and content u own on 1 and 2 carries over to 3 does that mean u can buy 1 and 2 thair dlcs and just go and play 3 for the full story? Or is there any campaigns/story stuff ud miss by jumping into 3 with all dlcs and just doing immortal empires?
