Sample Prompt

Just last year, portals began to open up all around Earth, leading to a completely different world full of monsters and magic. In the beginning, tensions were at an all-time high anytime someone from the other side stepped through the portal. Originally, the governments of the world wanted to make the spots where portals appeared completely uninhabitable, aiming to reduce any risk from this other world. However, business conglomerates saw another side to this: profit. Beings from this alternate reality were labeled as "Adventurers" and our governments brought forth the idea to establish an alliance with these Adventurers in order to help both sides. We would provide more modern-era goods and services to those beyond the portal, and in return, they would pay us in their currency. Once everyone from the modern age learned that gold coins and gemstones were aplenty from the other world, trade began to open up and prosper.

For my character, nothing much changed. He had his own problems to deal with, and worrying about this new world being opened up didn't seem like it help in any way. Recently, M/C had just signed off on the biggest purchase of his life up to that date; an abandoned apartment complex. The place had been in rough shape, and with it being on the edge of the city, there wasn't much interest in moving out that far. Still, he was determined to make this work, seeing as how all of the young man's money was going into this project. It was about a month after the deal had been settled, and M/C began renovating the place that the portal suddenly appeared. As if spawning from nothing, now there was suddenly a small vortex near the front lot of his complex.

At first, M/C was worried about the possibility of a rather aggressive and violent Adventurer coming through the portal and destroying his complex. But for weeks, nothing happened. But now the young man made sure to take periodic breaks from renovating to inspect the portal, making sure no sudden surprises came up. One day, though, just as he put the finishing touches on the first apartment space, there was an unfamiliar sound coming from the front where the portal rested. Going to investigate, M/C discovered that someone had finally decided to come through the portal. Armed with only a broom, the young man slowly approached this stranger.

"H-Hello there...Are you looking for a place to stay?"

Additional Information

The idea probably still needs some work, but essentially, my character will be in charge of an apartment complex that will be hosting visitors from another realm; a fantasy realm at that! Although the government has listed anyone on the other side of the portal as an "Adventurer", that doesn't necessary mean they'll all actually fit that description. While I certainly expect actual adventurers, from muscular barbarian women to graceful elven rangers, to show up, we can certainly also include other choices as well, such as a barmaid with a wealth of tips at their disposal.

Depending on the person that comes through the portal, and I'm certainly open to discuss who the very first will be alongside the others in the future, it will determine what kinds of interactions my character will have with them. Some will likely only show up at night, coming back to their apartment after a long day of adventuring, while others might actually try and take advantage of this modern-day world they're in now. But the idea is that all of them will have at least some interest in my character, though how much and how quickly it builds up over time will dependent on each person.
