AITAH for telling my friend that we're "not friends" during a party?

Hi Reddit! Long time lurker on this app but first time poster ever, so I'll do my best! Throwaway account JIC.

A few days ago, I (26M) was invited to a small party by my coworker who I'll call Mark. We've hung out a few times outside of work and I've attended some of his drag performances, I'd say we've been friends for about a year. But I'll admit that I'm not the best at texting or keeping in contact with people, even my best friends. This means that we mostly see each other at work, but we've been very friendly. So, I head over. We live right across the street from each other so I walked. There are a few others there, 6 peeps in total.

The night starts off fine. I hate alcohol but they pressure me into taking a small shot that's heavily diluted with Coke. That got them to back off a little about it. A little later, Mark and his sister, Angela, offer me an edible since I'm not drinking like the rest of them. I ask them what the dosage is since I only ever really take 10 mg, probably once every 2 or 3 months. She says she's not sure, she got it from a friend, but I can take half of it just to be safe. I say sure, it was my day off and I hadn't done it in a while. About 20 minutes later, Angela whispers to me "BTW that was a 1000 mg gummy."... that I took half of. Oh boy, here we go. Fuck it I guess. This is just to give you an idea of where my headspace was.

Somewhere earlier in the night, I had mentioned that like 90% of my friends identify as LGBTQ+ in some manner, primarily more feminine leaning or nonbinary. Later on, I'm sitting in the living room with Mark, Angela, and another member, Jessica, when Jessica asks me "So how many gay male friends DO you have?"

It's important to note that I am deep into the high at this point, so it's a bit of a blur but here's what I remember. In response to her question, I rack my brain to think of people, but I say “Now, that I think about it, I don't have any.” “What about Mark?” Jessica says. Shoot, I forgot to include Mark in my mental list. Then the whole vibe shifted.

All of a sudden, I was a bad friend because how could I "forget about someone who is sitting right in front of you, let you in their house and has only ever been nice to you?" It seemed like they thought that I was saying that I don't consider him a friend. I tried apologizing and explaining to them that that's not true, that when you're asked to think of every person you can think of on the spot, some names slip through the cracks.

But they weren't having it, I had shown my true colors and they knew how I truly felt. That what I said was akin to saying that I just see him as a coworker. This was also made worse because Mark kept telling me that "the phone goes both ways" and a lot of the time he has to text me first. I guess he had been feeling a little neglected. I was very confused and I couldn't quite wrap my head around where the miscommunication was coming from. They were also about 7 shots of tequila deep, but part of me feels like that's less of an excuse as me being WAY higher than I normally would be, where they drink alcohol more often. But while I was trying to gather my thoughts a little more, I was given my jar of pickles and I was pushed out of the house.

I just walked home, and we haven't talked since then. Our schedules don't overlap a ton, just on Mondays and Fridays really. And even then we're both so busy that we may not see each other for very long.

So Reddit, AITAH for forgetting to include my friend in my response; was it the way I said it? Was this an overreaction or is what I said a red flag in a way that I'm not aware of? I feel like I said everything I could, but maybe I should've been more thoughtful? Should I apologize?
