Calprotectin levels elevated despite prednisone and biologic
Hello everyone, I need some advice. I was just diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in July and suffered a horrible flare. Since August I have been on prednisone and due to insurance have only had two rounds (every 8 weeks) of Yesintek which is a stelera bio similar. I know this one can take time to become effective. Every time I've tried to taper off the prednisone my symptoms have come back full force. I expected my body to react slightly but days would pass and all of my symptoms would persist and my Gi would tell me to go back up in prednisone. I hate to be on prednisone this long but it's the only thing helping me not go 20 times a day. I will say the symptoms have slightly improved but my calprotectin levels just came back at 800. My GI is wanting to switch me medications to skyrizi. I don't know how to feel. Is it too early to see results from yesintek? Or should I be feeling much better by now? It's hard to tell what's the medication and what's the prednisone because I feel definitely better than where I was at the start of my diagnosis which was pretty bad, but at the same time should I be seeing better results? Is switching medications this early a good option? Has anyone had a similar experience with switching meds and did you notice improvements sooner? It's also definitely disappointing and I just want to feel better. I do feel better but it is most likely the prednisone covering.
