Feeling Guilty About Using Medication
So long story short i take my ADHD medication (Adderall IR) with the intention of it helping me focus on my studies and uni projects but then it hits and i start engaging passionately in other unrelated things like writing, contacting my friends, cleaning, making THIS post etc… which btw are also things i struggle to do without meds because of my burnout and adhd paralysis. So I’m glad that the meds are helping me do things i love but i also feel really guilty that I’m not using them for the “right” purposes especially that I’m currently at a very critical stage academically and i really NEED to be putting in the work. And i keep getting this inner voice telling me that I’m abusing the medication for fun and that I’m better off without it. What amplifies my feelings of guilt is that im buying the medication with my parents’ money and they only approved of me using medication after i convinced them that i really need it to make it through university. And at some point in my life that was actually true, they helped me incredibly with focusing on my studies because i was actually internally motivated, but now im too burnt out and even the meds wont help me do what i need to be doing even though i can feel them working in other areas.
My question: should i keep using the meds or should i let them go and try to manage executive dysfunction in other ways? because there’s already many complications i struggle with from stimulant usage like appetite and sleep problems and terrible crashes but i still hold onto them because i enjoy the couple hours of productivity and flow that they give me during the day.
