Feeling hurt by what my friend said - AIO?

Rant/Vent

I’m currently pregnant with twins. This is my second pregnancy (I have an almost 3 yr old) and this came as a shocker to both me and my husband.

I have a very close friend who has been thru everything with me for the past 5-6 years. My wedding, first pregnancy, my traumatic birth - she’s my go to person and she knows she is a default for any events I host. And I’ve been there for her for her turbulent marriage too - she is separated (not officially) from her husband since almost a year and has been dating someone else for a bit over three years now (and I fully support her decision/choice).

When I found out I was having twins, she was one of the first people I told. I was shocked when she said - “what’re you going to do about it?” Yeah I wanted only two babies but I’m not going to give up on my babies just cuz it a surprise multiple. But I chose not to read too much into it and just replied saying - “yeah it’s shocking but what can I do about it 🤷🏻‍♀️”

While I was shocked at first and trying to get used to the fact that I was going to have twins, I got used to the idea and was very excited to welcome the first set of twins in the family. Fast forward to my 20w anatomy scan, I found out one of my babies had duodenal atresia. The doctors were talking about Down syndrome, termination being an option, preterm labor, surgery for the baby (being the best case scenario) and it’s safe to say I was devastated.

That evening after my anatomy scan I texted her and told her what had happened at the anatomy scan. She replied saying - earlier that year she found out she was pregnant with her boy friends baby and she got an abortion but she never told me this cuz I was trying to have a baby at that time (I wasn’t) so didn’t want to spring the news of her pregnancy on me and just said - “you’ll eventually move on from what happened just like I did too”.

I was shocked by her response, I just couldn’t imagine someone saying I’ll move on from what I was going thru. I mean, yes if I had to take a tough decision I eventually will but I don’t see how my situation compares with hers. Yes, you can argue saying she terminated her pregnancy but I don’t see it being the same as my situation. I want my legitimate babies. I felt my babies move inside. I made a connection with them. I told people. I love them. I didn’t want my friend to cry with me, but I guess I was looking for a sympathetic ear.

I just didn’t respond to her message and couldn’t talk to her for weeks after that. She tried apologizing but I said there’s nothing to apologize about.

Weeks have passed now, my amnio came out negative (a big relief), my babies are fine (one of them still has the atresia but that’s a problem for after birth now) but I’m still not able to move on from what she said. I am trying hard to be normal with her and be my usual self but it’s so difficult. I am not able to forget her reaction to my news. I feel she always reacts negatively in the pretext of giving advice when all I want is a person to talk to.

I feel lonely like I have no one to talk to anymore. I feel like she’s been nothing but negative throughout my pregnancy. I don’t know if I’m overreacting but I’m not able to forget this even though I’ve tried to forgive.
