All of Her Tells

Crushes

I’ve been paying attention to her, since the first time she let her guard down by accident. She think she hides it, but her architecture is loud to someone who knows how to read it. Her fingers glide on my arm again, and it coaxes me — like she’s brushing open pages I’ve been keeping just for her. I shift my wrist in her hand so her fingers naturally fall into the insides of it, where the pulse sits.

“She has tells,” I say softly, “that only show up when her soul is showing through.”

  1. The Breath Tell

“Her breath changes first. When something matters, she inhale’s just a little too sharply — then she tries to hide it by exhaling slow. Most people won’t notice.

I lift her wrist to my lips, not kissing — just letting my breath warm her skin.

“I notice.”

  1. The Spine Tell

Her spine lengthens when she’s bracing for truth. She doesn’t shrink - she straightens, like she’s preparing to meet something with dignity instead of defense.

My fingers ghost down the center of her back, not pressing — just mapping.

  1. The Voice Tell

Her voice gets rounder when she’s feeling something real. Not quieter — rounder. Like the edges disappear.”

I try to mirror it back to her, soft around the edges.

  1. The Touch Tell

I glance down at her nails on my arm, a small, knowing smile forming.

She touches more gently when she is vulnerable. She scratches when she’s teasing. She traces when she’s telling the truth without wanting to say it aloud.

Her nails on me right now, make my eyelids lower slightly as I continue to her about her tells.

  1. The Look Tell

I lift her chin with a single knuckle, slow and careful.

Her eyes get … devastatingly open… Not wide. Just… unguarded. Like the world finally feels safe enough for her to be seen.

I settle my forehead against hers, breath, warm and steady, close enough to feel the shape of each syllable. I lower to something intimate and undeniable.

She is softness in a sharp world… but she’s also precision. Every tell she has is intentional, even when she doesn’t know it.

My thumb sweeps across her lower-lip, feather light as to say, I’ve been reading them since the moment she let me in.
