Wheel size - is it ok to use 1 inch smaller?

I have a set of snow tires from my previous car that are size 205/60 R16. My current car takes 215/50 R17. I think it's ok to put a smaller size wheel on my car, but want to make sure I'm not doing any damage. Thanks!
