Is it normal for the police to have no sense of urgency after I saw the car hit the fence and drove off with airbags on and fumes coming out?
So, yesterday I was coming back from the late shift and it was about 2am. Epping Forest council so it's pitch dark. I heard the loud bang, like something is collapsing and I turned around and saw the car just evening out the grassy bit between the road and fences. The car ended up hitting the brick fence. I started running towards the car and then the car backed out and then they went forward again to the other side of the road. And then they backed out again, directly facing me. In that moment and decided that they perhaps don't want my help and maybe don't even want me here so it's in my best interest to hid in the other driveway. The car drove off. I saw airbags being out on the passenger side and the fumes were coming out from the bonnet. A few meters further the car stopped again. But I saw debris on the road and there was a big, heavy boulder that the car must have lifted from the road so I run to move it so no car hit it (it was a slight turn so would be hard to notice). It was a heavy boulder and by the time I finished the car disappeared.
I called the police because I was worried about the driver but also no sane person would drove off twice. They took my details, I gave them the plate numbers and they said that I'm more than welcome to wait there and that the report was sent to the nearest patrol.
They showed up 15 minutes later, asked the same questions, told me to get home safe and they drove off. I expected them to drive around on the signal, looking for that car and then to come to the place, come out, take pictures or just have a look of what happened, make sure the area is secure and take the address of the house that got their fence ruined and come back with the news in the daytime to tell the residents what happened.
I felt like not only it was a damage to property but also reckless driving (for whatever reason). Is it normal that it was dealt with so.. casually?
I googled the plates and saw websites where you can find the car it's registered to and I don't know how legit that is but it was a small car for 2 people, just how I remembered it so I'm happy that at least I got the numbers right.
