I am finally believing the compliments I get
Hi friends. I (36M) have been visiting this sub daily and hearing all of the success stories (and field research stories) have been crucial to my recovery. Something finally clicked for me this week that hasn't in years. I finally believe people who compliment me. Before, that stupid little voice in my head would tell myself that they are all wrong. They don't know what they're talking about. They're just lying to make me feel better. Now, I finally have enough confidence in myself to really hear what they are saying and that maybe, just maybe, that voice in my head was wrong. I'm pretty disappointed in myself that I pushed people away for years because I didn't have the confidence to believe people in my life.
I know that I can never drink again. That idea scared the shit out of me when I began my journey but now I feel like I'm in a secret club of people who know how to actually live. I'm complimenting people more. I actually believe my wife now when she says she loves me. I'm finally seeing the good in the world instead of being a sour, depressed loser. Alcohol is evil and I am so thankful of being done. Thank you everyone for being there for me. I couldn't have done this without you.
