Does the name Shasta remind you of something bad?
Or is my cousin too deep into the true crime community?
This is currently a minor drama in the family. New baby girl due in February was set to be named Shasta, but a cousin "A" brought up the fact that it is the unique name of a kidnapping victim. She is very much into true crime but the rest of us are not. I looked up the case and now I feel very sad and reminded of that case... mother of the baby is pretty pissed right now because she says that literally no one would have known about this if Cousin A didn't bring it up, but now everyone in the chat is talking about it, effectively ruining the name.
I am inclined to say the mother is correct - I honestly don't think I would have made that connection if cousin A didn't tell us. The name works really well with their last name. But then I wonder... maybe we have just been living under a rock all this time? Maybe it's a good thing we know about this.. (We did know of the drink Shasta but they weren't too concerned about that since it's not that popular where we live.)
We live in the South, USA. Just wondering other people's perspectives.
