AITAH - Christmas Tree

So for context, we are two 30 year olds with two kids and one car. I am the primary caregiver, he works and he comes home. I do everything else. (Context matters because I’m aware after ten years it does factor into resentment.)

I wanted a real tree this year, he doesn’t care either way. I asked for months, was ready when the time came, one thing turned into another and he ended up deciding he doesn’t want the tree on his car.

There’s the alternative of a moving blanket and rope for the tree. Again this is something I want because it MEANS ALOT TO ME. He won’t budge. His argument to me feeling like how I feel doesn’t matter? “How I feel about my car doesn’t matter to you”. The car would’ve been fine, the principal he couldn’t be bothered is hurtful, the reality he couldn’t compromise or care to do this for me is not out of the ordinary.

He finds a tree that will be delivered, it’s “5-6 feet.” Make a mountain out of a molehill why don’t you. We wait, it came today. The tree is literally 5 feet and maybe 1 inch, not even.

I’m pissed, because it’s not a tree you want to look at and feel like Santa’s coming, it looks like half a tree, I waited all year for this. I don’t think my kids care, I know my daughter doesn’t want to hear the fighting so I’m “happy” for them, despite her asking why the trees so small, why does it look like that, etc. So inside I’m let down, angry, pissed off, and as usual feeling like “just stay for the kids, just stay for the kids”.

He said he can’t believe I’m hurt over a tree when my kids have a tree and “that’s all that matters”. But what about if to me that’s not all that matters?
