Episode 19 (Gala Round) Discussion - Painfully Slow and Bizarre Voting System
Pace:
Ok so, before talking about the performances, I wanna talk about how painfully slow the show has become. Just 3 performances in a one episode of one hour? I know you guys want to pay tribute to the legends but did the tribute to lyricists in the beginning need to be this long?
Voting System:
The voting system also seems bizarre because of this 3 to 4 performances per day. Even though only 4 contestants performed last Saturday, the voting was opened for all the participants for 2 days. How do they expect us to vote without listening to the performances? This week again voting opens today but 4 contestants are yet to perform. The contestants who performed last Saturday got 3 days of voting last and will get 3 days this week (total 6). The contestants who would perform tomorrow would only get 2 days of voting post their performances.
In Season 1, they divided the top 24 into 3 groups of 8. One day a group would from, there would be break of one day, and the next day would be elimination episode. This is how they selected top 12 in 3 weeks (with 4 from each week going ahead). Giving everyone equal amount of voting time. Also, after that, from Top 12, all the contestants would perform in a single episode, one day break, and then there would be an elimination episode. One elimination per week.
How long do they expect the show to go on with only 3 to 4 performances a day?
Faryal:
Faryal is not performing this week either because she is ill and they spent 15 to 20 minutes (unnecessarily) discussing Faryal. I loved Faryal's audition, probably one of my most favorite auditions, but as this is elimination round, and a contestant is bound to be eliminated, will it not be EXTREMELY unfair to that contestant if they get eliminated and Faryal goes on to the next round without even performing in this round?
Performances:
All three performances got standing ovation.
Rohan was brilliant, but this type of classical is not my cup of tea, so yeah...
Maham sand a Reshma Jee's song and was much better than the Theater Round this time.
Waqar, however, was the BIGGEST surprise for me. The only contestant besides Samya to change the genre this time and BOY did he nail it! 'Kabhi Mein Sochta Hoon' by Mehdi Hassan is one of my favorite songs and the way he performed it with such authenticity and all those voice modulation was just brilliant. I'll again get back to my voting point here that it is extremely unfair that we did not see this performance last week, and thus did not vote for him last week.
