What do you think of this idea? If the Netflix/WB merger cannot be stopped, the Academy could change the rules to qualify a feature film for an Academy Award. If the rules and standards of the industry have changed, then change more rules.

Discussion

Currently a movie has to be released for two weekends in NYC and LA. Like Made-For-TV movies, a film produced and distributed for streaming should not qualify without a wider and longer release. Independent films (budgets under $5MIL and not produced by a streamer) should have the current rules. My only concern is that Netflix will then (or is already in the process) of buying AMC or another theater company.

But…. our next government leaders need to BRING BACK THE PARAMOUNT DECISION and SEPARATE STUDIOS AND DISTRIBUTORS.
