AITA for genuinely hating the way my best friend acts sometimes?
My best friend and I (both 19) have been friends for 7 years. I love her like a sister. Surely, like any other person, she has her flaws but I just can’t stand the way she treats me anymore.
In high school, she had two other “best friends” she’s known since elementary school. I never had an issue with them, but I always felt like they didn’t really like me. Which was totally fine with me because I wasn’t that close to them. One even told me she thought I looked like a “snob” before she got to know me, which honestly didn’t bother me at all, I’m used to hearing that. The other acts very “cutesy” and childish in a way that feels fake, but I’ve always been respectful and friendly with both of them.
Once, I told my best friend privately that the childish one seemed a bit fake, and she agreed with me, so it’s not like I’m imagining things or being jealous.
Here’s the issue: My best friend constantly hides her plans with these two from me. She never tells me when they hang out until after it happens or not at all. I only found out they were supposed to travel together on the day they went to the airport. I wasn’t mad they were traveling together, and I know she doesn’t “owe” me anything, but why am I always the last to know? It’s not like I’d cause drama or tell her not to go. I’ve never complained about their friendship I even encouraged her to hang out with them in school because she likes walking around and I didn’t.
Fast forward to today (Dec 6th). My city has a cute annual Christmas tree lighting event. I texted her to ask if she was going, thinking we could meet up. She said the two girls asked her yesterday and she already told them yes. Again, fine. I don’t mind that she’s going with them.
But she didn’t even think to ask if I wanted to come too. When I said I wasn’t sure yet, she didn’t follow up at all. I went with my family and during the event she didn’t check in or try to meet up with me. It feels like she never considers me the way I consider her.
I don’t hate her, but I hate this pattern of hiding things and acting like I’d get upset when I’ve never given her a reason to think that.
So… AITA for being hurt and annoyed, or are my feelings valid?
