The firestreak missile, is it really that bad? Or am I just bad at the game?

I have just unlocked my first missile armed plane, the javelin. It has two firestreak missiles. Being on console doesn't help much, but I was trying it out, and it wasn't brilliant. I did some googling, and it isn't seemingly a good missile.

However, I had the chance in a few games to shoot it at some of the AI planes, AI mig-15s. I've fired six so far, and hit one. All were fired from behind, on a straight line target, from within 1km and beyond about 400m, whilst I was closing in with a speed advantage.

Is the missile really that bad, or am I probably doing something wrong?

(PS, I'm also really bad at the game, I get a kill in maybe 1 in three games of Air RB, so I don't know if it's just me being shit as well)
