ChatGPT Lying More Often with Tech Support Answers Recently?
I've noticed that recently ChatGPT has become much more unreliable with anything related to tech support. I use it a lot for many things, like fixing my wifi, helping with phone data transfer, figuring out how certain apps work, and so on. I am not a very tech savvy guy, so having AI that can explain niche tech problems has been a lifesaver.
But in the past few months or so, it feels like ChatGPT has become way more unreliable in this field. It makes up entire steps that do not exist, like “click XYZ on this page” when that page does not even have that option. It even fabricates the impact of certain decisions, making me potentially harmful changes to systems that I'm not familiar with. The worst part is that recently it delivers all of this with complete, utter confidence, starting answers with lines like ‘here is the definite way to solve this’, which makes it even more annoying when the solution does not work.
A lot of this gets fixed if I say something like “search for websites related to this query and generate advice based on them”, but the AI should be doing that on its own in the first place.
I know hallucinations have always been a big issue with ChatGPT, but is it just me, or has this problem been getting much worse recently?
