Are the changes to skill development intentional?

Discussion

I've noticed while playing Requiem that some skills develop at different paces.

For example, melee skills are leveling at warp speed. I know that's to be expected of a melee character to an extent, but I don't remember hitting two-handed 100 at such a fast rate in vanilla. Is it because the damage values are higher, resulting in more XP? The idea of melee being something your character can self-teach works fine for me.

Armor skills and speech skills develop at a mostly fine speed in my experience.

Magic and crafting are the skills that leveling up seems to be absolute drudgery. I don't mind this, high level enchanting, magic, and alchemy can break the game. I also really like the idea thematically that your character needs a mentor for these skills, it feels apt for the genre of magical fantasy.

I guess what I'm asking, at the end of the day, is do you experience this pace of skill development, or do I have some setting out of line with what the typical Requiem experience is meant to be?
