Stealing in private servers

Can someone explain how this happens? My 10 year old daughter has been crying inconsolably for the last 15 minutes. She is using a private server and complete strangers managed to get in the server and steal her purple octopus and Los Combinasionas. I don't play the game and have no idea how I can sort this.
